Write for Solutions
Solutions is read by GIS analysts, geospatial engineers, cartographers, data scientists and the people who commission mapping work in utilities, transport, planning, environmental consultancy and local government. They are practitioners. They want to know how a projection was chosen, why a dataset failed, what a new tool actually does on a real project, and where the cost sits. If you work with spatial data, you already know things this audience needs.
A contribution puts your name in front of that readership and keeps it there. Posts stay on the site, are indexed by search engines, and continue to bring readers to your work long after publication. For consultants and in-house teams, a clear technical article is often the most useful thing you can publish about your practice.
What we publish
- GIS practice: data preparation, projection choices, topology, accuracy and the mistakes that cost time.
- Geospatial data: open datasets, licensing, formats, quality checks and combining sources that were never designed to sit together.
- Mapping and cartography: symbology, generalisation, web maps, print maps and the design decisions behind them.
- Tools and platforms: desktop GIS, spatial databases, Python and R workflows, cloud geospatial services.
- Remote sensing and location data: satellite and aerial imagery, LiDAR, GPS, and what the outputs can and cannot support.
- Sector applications: planning, utilities, transport, agriculture, environment, emergency response and asset management.
Guest posts and sponsored articles
We accept contributed editorial and sponsored placements. If you want to write for us, both routes are open, and the terms differ in one respect only: disclosure. Contributed editorial is published as the author's own work. Sponsored posts are marked as sponsored where the law or the platform requires it, and we will not present paid material as independent editorial.
Published posts are permanent and indexed. Editorial links are dofollow. We do not remove posts later, and we do not add links after publication. Pricing for sponsored placements is on request. Our usual turnaround from accepted draft to publication is three to five working days.
If you would rather submit an article than pitch an idea first, that is fine, provided it follows our contributor guidelines below.
Guidelines
- Original and unpublished work. We do not republish material that has appeared elsewhere, including on your own blog.
- 800 words or more. Longer is welcome if the subject earns it.
- One or two relevant links. They should support the article, not pad it.
- No gambling, adult or pharmaceutical content. We will decline it without further discussion.
- An author bio is optional. If you supply one, keep it to two or three sentences and include a single link.
- We edit for house style. This covers spelling, headings, terminology and length. We will not change your argument, and we will show you anything substantial before it goes live.
- Include sources for figures, datasets and quoted material. Claims about performance or cost need evidence.
How to pitch
Email guestpost@fortiusone.com with the subject line "Guest post: <topic>". In the body, give us a short outline of what you intend to cover, roughly 100 to 200 words, and a link to past work so we can see how you write. If you have a draft ready, send it instead and tell us whether you are offering it as a guest post or a sponsored post. We read everything and reply to pitches we can use, usually within a few working days. If a topic is not right for us, we will say so rather than leave you waiting.
Questions about any of the above, or a pitch you are not sure about, go to guestpost@fortiusone.com. That address reaches the editorial desk directly, and it is the only route for submissions.
