Technology Overview

Fortius Geospatial Review has developed a dynamic geospatial analytic and heat mapping technology that delivers geo-statistics and high resolution raster analysis through a web browser. Clients can use these capabilities to add compelling visualization and decision support to their web applications. Geospatial web applications create real value when users can quickly determine whether location “A” is better than location “B” and by how much. Fortius Geospatial Review is meeting this fundamental need in mapping applications while also building a foundation for increasingly sophisticated and value added analytics.

The Fortius Geospatial Review architecture is built on flexible, open standards. We use a geodatabase back-end using MY SQL spatial that allows geo-referenced data to be stored and queried. We manage the geodatabase using a “folksonomy” approach, where data is rated and tagged, similar to popular organizational sites such as del.icio.us. The tagging and rating system lets us easily manage the data, pushing the most relevant and accurate data to the top of the hierarchy. The application middleware is developed in Ruby on Rails. This gives us a robust architecture for quickly building media rich web applications that utilize the geodatabase. The technology is made available as an API for easy integration with a variety of web mapping applications, including our demo mapping app built in OpenLaszlo.
